Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 May 2026
This privacy policy explains how mycommute.london ("we", "our", "the site") handles information when you visit. We try to keep this short and clear.
Who we are
mycommute.london is a free web tool that shows live London Underground line status, real-time tube departure boards, and station information for the TfL network — Tube, Overground, Elizabeth line, DLR, Trams and Cable Car. The site is operated as an independent project and is not affiliated with Transport for London (TfL). Travel data is provided by TfL Open Data. If you have a question about this policy, you can contact us at info@mycommute.london.
What we collect
We do not ask you to create an account or submit personal information. The site runs in your browser and queries TfL's public Open Data endpoints directly to fetch line status and departure information for the stations you view. We do not store your searches, the stations you look up, or any usage history on our servers.
Like most websites, when you visit we automatically receive standard log information through our analytics and advertising providers, including:
- Your IP address (typically truncated/anonymised by our providers)
- Browser type, language, and device information
- The pages you view on the site and the time spent on each
- The referring website or search query that brought you here
- Approximate location (country/region level), inferred from IP
When the site fetches live status or departure data, your browser makes a request to TfL's Open Data servers. That request is subject to TfL's own privacy and data practices. We have no access to those server logs.
Cookies and similar technologies
We and our third-party providers use cookies and similar technologies (such as web beacons and local storage) to operate the site, measure traffic, and — where applicable — serve advertising. Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser.
We use two categories of cookies:
- Essential — required for the site to function (for example, remembering your cookie consent choice). These do not require consent under UK PECR.
- Non-essential — analytics (Google Analytics) and advertising (Google AdSense) cookies. These are only set after you give consent via the cookie banner shown on your first visit.
Until you accept, our analytics and advertising scripts run in Google's Consent Mode with all storage denied — no analytics or advertising cookies are written to your device.
You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link (also available in the footer). You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, and your approximate location. This data is aggregated and used for traffic analysis. You can read more in Google's Privacy Policy and opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Advertising
This site displays advertising served by Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service operated by Google.
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve cookies and use similar technologies on this site to serve ads based on your prior visits.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info or, if you are in the EU/UK, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
For more information on how Google uses data when you use partners' sites or apps, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
How we use information
The information collected through our analytics and advertising providers is used to:
- Operate and improve the site and its content
- Measure traffic and understand how visitors use the live status and departure board features
- Display relevant advertising to support the site's running costs
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues or misuse
We do not sell your personal information.
Sharing
We do not share information with third parties beyond the analytics and advertising providers listed above, and the public TfL Open Data API your browser queries to fetch live travel information. Those providers process data under their own privacy policies.
Data retention
We do not store visitor data on our own servers. Analytics and advertising data is retained by our providers in line with their own retention policies.
Your rights
If you are in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, you have rights under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, including the right to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data held about you, and the right to object to certain processing. Because we do not collect identifying personal data ourselves, most requests should be directed to the relevant provider (Google or TfL). For any questions, you can also contact us at info@mycommute.london.
You can lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
External links
The site may link to external websites (for example, the TfL site, the ICO, or Google's policy pages). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. Please review their privacy policies before submitting any personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent change. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
